JANIS JOPLIN [Press Photograph by Tucker Ranson] All-out Effort: Exhausted after her performance at the 1969 Woodstock festival, Janis Joplin closes her eyes and rests of the microphone

Black and white photo, 3 1/2 x 10 inches, with handwritten production notes on back. Ranson was a photographer for Time and Life Woodstock Issue. With very little need to introduce Joplin, she is considered the premier female blues vocalist of the Sixties. Her raw, powerful singing style, combined with her turbulent and emotional lifestyle, made her one of the biggest female stars in her lifetime (Mark Kemp. "Janis Joplin Biography". rollingstone.com.) She died of a drug overdose in 1970, a few weeks after Jimi Hendrix.
