The program features the famous Cotton Club Parade starring Bill Robinson and Cab Calloway. ìThe Cotton Club Parade has become known as the outstanding entertainment achievements of the colored race because of the originality, the beauty, the lavishness of these productions.î(Inside cover).

The Cotton Club was one of NYCís premiere nightclubs from 1923-1940 and featured the eraís best black entertainers, such as Lena Horne, Cab Calloway, Dorothy Dandridge, Duke Ellington, Sammy Davis, Jr., Ethel Waters, and Bill ìBojangesî Robinson, performing for wealthy whites. Langston Hughes called it ìa Jim Crow club for gangsters and monied whites.î The club was originally located at 142nd St. and Lenox Ave. in Harlem, but later reopened at Broadway and 48th St. in 1936. It began admitting black patrons in 1935, but closed in 1940.
